BIO-DATA OF THAKUR DALIP SINGH, AIIPC, ARPS
Born on 5th August 1953, at village Sri Bhaini Sahib District of Ludhiana, Punjab (INDIA), Thakur Dalip Singh Ji is the elder son of Maharaj Bir Singh ji (1923-2008). Thakur Ji is the nephew of Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji (1920-2012), who were supreme spiritual head of Namdhari Sikhs. Thakur Ji's father introduced him to photography in childhood, and refinement in the art was taught by Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. Thakur Ji's full involvement in photography was initiated in 1977 under the care and guidance of eminent photographers of the country, such as Sarvashri R.K Chib, Madan Mahatta, Rajesh Bedi and Om Prakash Sharma Ji.
By profession Thakur Ji is agriculturist and internationally renowned photographer. Thakur Ji is a great philanthropist as he devotes most of the time serving human and the environment. Thakur Ji has built school and colleges in remote area of Haryana which are running successfully.
Many books has illustrated Thakur Ji's superb pictures like Bhirtpur Bird Paradise, Jungle Life of India, Birds of India, Handbook of Birds of India and Nepal, Kaziranga Inheritage, Animal Encyclopaedia, and Karnataka Wild life. Thakur Ji's pictures were showcased in many publications like British Journal of Photography, B.B.C Wildlife, 35 mm Photography, Photography (U.K.), Readers Digest, and Asiad 82 magazine.
Pictures by Thakur Ji has secured places on the covers of British Journal of Photography, Sanctuary Asia, Indian Photography and Cinematography and many other publications. A number of these have been published in B.B.C Wildlife, 35 mm Photography (U.K.), Femina, Zoom, Asiad 82 magazine, Swagat, Discover India, most Indian newspapers and several other publications.
Thakur Ji is the executive member of "India International Photographic Council", and trustee of "Academy of Visual Media". Thakur Ji is a Patron of "Punjabi Kala Academy" and lifetime member of the "Bombay Natural History Society" and "World Wildlife Fund". Thakur Ji is the founder president of Lensmen club, Ludhiana, Punjab.
Thakur Ji has been honored with the associateship of "The Indian International Photographic Council" in 1986 and "Royal Photographic Society" U.K, in 1987.
As a faculty member Thakur Ji has judged several International and National photo workshops and photo exhibitions. Thakur Ji has won more than 150 International and National Awards, few of them are listed below:
- Grand prize (Return Ticket to Paris) by British airways 1988.
- World Press Photo Competition, Holland 1980. (Certificate for picture story)
- Prize from 'SLR camera', Magazine-England, for a new photo technique, 1983.
- Artist of the Year 1993 by CONCEPT.
- Life Time Achievement Award Conferred by Academy of Visual Media in 2004.
